Are we controlling our technology or is it quietly reshaping who we are?
In this interview, I speak with writer Oren Ben-Yosef, author of Demonology as Devourment Without a Devourer, about the connections between ancient demonology and modern life.
Rather than arguing for the existence of supernatural beings, Oren explores the “demonic” as a philosophical idea: impersonal forces that can consume our attention, influence our behaviour, and weaken our control over our own lives without consciously intending to harm us.
Our conversation moves from ancient accounts of possession to artificial intelligence, social media, and the algorithms competing for our attention. When a few minutes of scrolling become a lost evening, or an online argument takes over our emotions, are we still using the system or has the system started using us?
