Many of the signs are transpositions from sign language that can be documented through texts on American Indian Sign Language. The natural overall form of the Rock is important as it is the sign for the upper-world. The reason the same signs can be found in England (or other parts of the world) is that sign language is very old and was brought to the new world by migrating tribes. The signs were often used to preserve an ancient cosmology that was based in a knowledge of the water cycle and used as a basis for a metaphor related to birth, life, death, and rebirth. Many of the inscriptions at Judaculla Rock indicate the ascension of the spirits of the deceased from the under-world to the upper world and to the sky. It is likely that a spring was or remains in the area and was considered a center (the holes) from which the spirits ascended to the sky. See: Ancient Depicted Sign Language at Academia.edu

Humans have changed size over the millenia, it's called evolution, adjusting for climate or ways of life/making a living, food availability, etc. Why can't there be giants? Why can't etchings on rock mean exactly what the Cherokee say it does? Just because something isn't in the history books doesn't mean it isn't so. Don't be so close-minded that you suffocate or miss something remarkable.
