It struck me after a drive along a long, straight, but thin Roman road to Chedworth Roman Villa and a visit to the Roman baths at Bath just how impactful the Romans were during their tenure as rulers of what is now Europe and North Africa.
I am an Indian and I don't want British buidings to last, as they don't remind of great thing British did. They remind me of the brutal slavery and shameless plunder my country was exposed to, for 200 years. I want them to fall very soon.
Thank you Dr Verma. Yes, a very understandable sentiment. And just to clarify, I certainly don't condone the behavior of the colonialists of Britain or others (including the Romans, for that matter.) Just much Roman architecture has stood the test of time and show some remarkable achievements, and wondered if any British constructions might compare.
Come to think of it. ...not all British were bad. Infact, in general they did good work. Only the policy makers were wrong. And I really appreciate now the monuments they build. Also, British helped us uncover the ancient civilizations. Apologies, I take my words back.
