The shape of 'the casket', particularly the bottom, suggests it is NOT a casket, but a piece designed to be stood upright. Of course, this one fact opens a huge can of worms for the institution, which has been slowly built like a house of cards - and now leaning.
The casket(s), (as they were nesting caskets), rested in the stone outer sarcophagus. They were not intended to stand upright. In the case of Tut, the sarcophagus was unopened, the contents in their original state, and the caskets laid inside.
Every other burial, and there are hundreds of them, whether royal or not, had a horizontal sarcophagus.
The bottom of the caskets would be tapered like a prone human body if they were meant to be laid flat. No, with that broad base at the bottom, they were obviously designed to be stood upright. So they are not coffins, but had some other purpose in the subterranean homes of the ancients.
The most interesting and unusual thing about Egypt then and now is how there is a constant attempt to disassociate it with the rest of Africa. The Bible states the Ancient Egyptians were the descendants of Ham. The Egyptians state that they came from what could be interpreted as the Kilimanjaro basin or where the Nile meets Uganda ['Mountain to the Stars']. However, much of published history keeps regurgitating this nonsense about a 'Middle East' origin. [Which is also North Africa]. All of Ancient Africa, Southern Europe and West Asia were originally populated by Black people as modern DNA repeatedly proves. Despite the modifications and European-i zing of artifacts, the fact remains that the people of the sun were at minimum 10,000 years before any different ethno-type appeared in the region. Melanin and the sun are the tell tale pieces of evidence that make this evident.
Absolutely enjoy Egyptian history. Thank you for these quick histories.
You are welcome! :-)

Good catch Peter!

Well, it would certainly save floor space. The Cairo Museum stands a lot of them up.
Great article.
Thank you!

Corruption always existed just NOT true. We look at history with constructs and outcomes based on present day learning and understanding.
Actually, if you believe the Biblical account of Noah's ark, corruption existed even before there were nations like Egypt.
