From my forthcoming book 'Finding the Phœnix': I am no expert in either Sumerian or Akkadian, but I can use a dictionary; and I find that AN is Sumerian for ‘sky, heaven, god, high’; NU is ‘image, likeness, picture, figurine, statue’ (see sculpture, MUMMU); NA is ‘human being’; and KI is Earth. So Sitchen was right: ANNUNAKI means ‘those gods from on high who sculpted humans as figurines in their image on Earth’. I used John A. Halloran's online Sumerian Lexicon. If Sitchen was right about this, what else was he right about -- and what else are the mainstream still trying to debunk? --Marchell Abrahams, author of 'The Great Migrations to Britain of 1527 B. C. and 485 B. C.', 'Angels at Twenty Past', 'Nighthawk', and others to come.

I am no expert either but.... after Sitchen's death his website offered a DVD with sort of a peek into Sitchen's life. I bought it. The part where he was in the hospital awaiting a procedure was worth the price of the DVD - he looked straight at the camera and said he was praying to the Anunnaki. So, that as a shocker to me. A year or so later I read that his adult daughter commented that he told her that he wrote what the Anunnaki told him to write. I have no problem with channeling or hearing voices but the quality of that sort of information is notorious as ranging greatly in value. All the above does not mean his information is inaccurate. Nor does it prove it was inaccurate. But it might explain why no one can validate what he wrote.

This article debunking Sitchin feels very confident. For example, it amazes me there really is no or little mention of gold mining in the original Sumerian texts🧐

Preface: I bet $10 to a penny that neither Jason nor Sarah have totally and thoroughly read all of Sitchin's three foundational books, that is,The 12th PlanetWars of Gods and MenThe Lost Realms (about Aztec, Maya, and Inca). If both of you have, send me your addresses and I'll send $10.  Also what are your credentials?  Are you both archeologists or what?  I saw "Explorers of ancient issues" in your book but no credentials on your link???

Some Initial Comments.

I agree that we must read Sitchin AND YOUR POST with a certain degree of skepticism.Concerning details about discrepancies between what the Sumarian texts actually say and Sitchin's personal "translations, " leads me to the question of OBJECTIVITY.  What are the facts and what is objective, thus the difference between reality and myth, which has been debated extensively and will certainly continue to be debated.See Ioannis Syrigos's, cofounder of Ancient Origins, "What if Mythology is Just History."  I offer a definition.  The objective is the subjective consensual agreement of the experts. Many experts, many opinions, many interpretations!!!See Bart Ehrman, Misquoting Jesus; and, Jesus Interrupted.

So, WHO has the right interpretation based upon what evidence? Objective truth can be quite elusive, no?

Referring to the above, may I point out that Sitchin was a scholar of the Old Testament and learned many of the languages of the Middle East.  (Did both of you do this too?). He also attempted to balance the history of the Sumerian clay tablets/seals with the cultural histories of the Middle East. Thus, I recommend that these tablets/seals NEED to be seen in cultural contexts. And CONTEXT IS IMPORTANT!Anything taken in isolation, cherry picking, etc., tends to have problems.   Focusing on one or two tablets or seals is certainly much too little, and possibly biased. If both of you did what was in my preface, then I would accept some of your critique.  It's CONTEXT with ALL relevant tablets/seals that matters.

Definition of Anunnaki.

Define or not, as you wish, but the important thing is their history in the MILLIONS of tablets/seals.  See the WHOLE PICTURE presented in Sitchin's 12 books, but especially the 3 foundational ones and do not get hung upon a few definitions that are QUITE DEBATABLE by many scholars, especially the Hebrew writers, and open to many different interpretations.  Depends upon your bias, methinks.

Depiction of Anunnaki  Have you seen the MULTITUDE of figures, statues, etc, in Sitchin's books? What do they look like? What is YOUR interpretation of them?Or, how get correct interpretations? for the artifacts do not speak English!

Anunnaki Mining Gold   Examine Sitchin's pages concerning the Anunnaki and their Lulus and read stories of both, especially why "homo sapiens" HAD to be created.  You are aware that there are gold mines over 200,000 years old in South Africa, 2-3 miles deep!See Michael Tellinger's Slave Species of the Gods; and, The African Temples of The Anunnaki.

Creation of ManOne of the most important chapters in The 12th Planet.  Have you read/studied it?  What do you make of all the stories from the tablets/seals as presented in 12th? And you worry about ONE SEAL!!!

Sitchin and von Daniken "triggered an "industry."  Friends, many of the so-called mainstream archeology, even the Alternative community, have created THEIR OWN industry and fight each other continuously.I have personally met Sitchin and had him give lectures at my Centers.  This man is a SCHOLAR who was laughted at in 1976, dismissed by the mainstream "experts," and yet most of what he wrote/talked about HAS COME TO PASS, such as space stations above earth, more travels to other planets, etc. I predict that one day he WILL be recognized as one of our greatest historians/archeologists.

Yes, it's too bad that some are making a religion out of all this based on a BELIEF system but let's stick to scientific facts.

Finally, yes, let's look around here on earth AS WELL AS being open to outside assistance.  Let's take Sitchin's work as an hypothesis and prove it right or wrong.  See Evans, The Sitchin Legacy as an example.

Respectfully Submitted.Kenneth Pollinger, Ph.D. Sociology (SUNY)

Sadly there are many other facts that you have left out while smearing Sitchin’s entire work, rather than exploring it with open mindedness and equanimity. Specially, elongated skulls and giant bones, Biblical texts (there were giants in those days…etc.); similar, oral origin history around the globe and of course the greats like Hancock and Carlson offer proof that many aspects of both Steichen’s and Daniken’s work are accurate. Simply, the Nazca Lines provide credence of a race that could fly—another unsolved mystery.

I smell a dog in the hunt from the authors towards publicizing their own work. Please keep an open mind for the Unsolved Mystery of our Origins.

The plethora of facts and speculation of narratives helps keep the excitement and interest in hopefully determining a conclusive human history. Another author could debunk what is written by the authors too as new translators are uncovering new information. Offering new ideas, rather than being an adamant debunker, is much more helpful.

The author is talking out of his arse.

At the start he says : 'we are free to search the entire spectrum of Sumerian literature at The Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature'

This was the first trick they used against the truth - 'here, look at our translations, not the other ones'. Of course 'their' translations have been scrubbed clean of incriminating evidence.

The fact is Sitchin was right - on nearly everything. The Anunnaki are the Biblical Elohim (plural). Are you going to deny the Elohim of the Bible ?

We owe Sitchin and others a great debt - they have uncovered a great truth - the true origin and history of humanity. The author has some private agenda.

Actually, about 2009 the Nibiru System started coming into view, coming up from the South. These 8 planets, their moons & various asteroids have been sliding through our own solar system causing all the weird weather that is going on. Check out the work of SAMUEL HOFMAN on Montana Sky Watcher!! Back in 1978 at age 17 Sam wrote a paper on how there had to be a Twin Solar System to ours & sure enough, his group has been taking photos & videos of the various planets as they are sliding through!! At times they fill our sky so we think it IS our sky!! Back in 1978 he was put under an NDA for 30 years!! Now that he can talk about it, no one is listening!! ;-)

Artificially elongated skulls? While there are certainly skulls that have been artifically elongated, there are hundreds of elongated skull that can't be explained by cradling.

There are also several other facets of reality that anyone can get scholarly about in under a few hours by visiting Brien Fiersters channel, to name one source.

Elongated skull feature large eye sockets, considerably larger skull volume, sutures in all then wrong places and the base of the neck being in a completely wrong location.

Wrong when compared to a human skull, cradled or not.

None of this means those skull are alien by provenance, of course, but to brush off this anomaly by labeling it as cradling is disingenuous at best.

I'm fascinated by Ancient Alien Theory and similar alternative histories—not necessarily because I buy all their claims, but because they spark curiosity, drive cultural conversations, and push us to reconsider how we approach history, spirituality, and human origins.

At the same time, I deeply value careful scholarship. It’s crucial to respect historical accuracy and not twist evidence simply to fit our desired narratives. Evidence matters; translations matter; context matters.

Ultimately, it's less about choosing sides—"aliens vs. church," or "skeptics vs. believers"—and more about creating space for thoughtful exploration. The search for truth shouldn't have a predefined agenda. It should be open-ended, evidence-based, and genuinely curious.

If I have one core belief in all this, it's that truth is usually more complicated and often more fascinating than any simplified, binary story we're given—whether it comes from ancient astronaut theorists or religious institutions.

Keeping an open but critical mind, one willing to wander through uncertainty and ambiguity, is probably the most valuable approach we have to navigating this complicated cultural moment.

Yes, Zecharia Sitchin has made some mistakes translating those Sumerian Texts, for example Nibiru/Neiberau is neither a planet nor a star but, a huge spaceship almost of the size of a planet, with which the Annunaki approached the Earth some 450,000 years ago, then landed in small spacecrafts. But they indeed were looking for gold. And they indeed created mankind (the idea of Ea/Enki) through genetic engineering. Adam was the first perfect human model created by them. -Forgotten Genesis - by Radu Cinamar. The source of his book is - The Universal Records or The Akashic Records.

Sitchin could have admitted (as did Robert Temple in "The Sirius Mystery") that it's just not clear who or what the Anunnaki were, but I guess that would have thrown his narrative right off the rails. I would recommend Temple's book to everyone suffering from Sitchin/von Däniken burnout.

Been 20 years or so ago, but I remember reading that Sitchin's works are mistranslations of Sumerian texts. But I wish I had come up with his idea of a 12th Planet and sold millions of books! Ha. He did pick a subject that he could get by using his own translations of Sumerian Texts since Sumerian is not understood by anyone.

To the substack owner / article writer:

1. I enjoy your research however I have to point out some gaps in general you have

2. Across naby of your articles I notice a trend of relying on some base premises without first qualifying such ie carbon dating is nonsense, but you build then an argument around false premises - I would suggest you first fix your baseline premises prior to submitting the research as it leads to faulty conclusions or deductions, rather note them and let the reader draw the conclusion

3. You must understand with recent revelations how many research, blogs etc are paid off, its hard to distinguish between fed narrative and actual research - just because you have followers, of which you are note aware the split between critical thinking and non, does not mean your articles are accepted as the best possible version - credibility comes from irrefutable logic deduction

Looking forward to more research that is natural!

WOW!!!. IF THIS IS TRUE then much follows.

Sitchin PRAYED to the Anunnaki. And stated that they

"he wrote what the Anunnaki told him to write."

WOW again , IF TRUE. I need to confirm all of Richard's post. I will try to meet with his daughter when back in the states.

However, assuming all this IS true, then it explains many things about his research, especially his book, The Lost Book of ENKI. I often wondered where got all the info. Even in the 12th Planet concerning his chapter on The Creation of the Cosmos, where planet Tiamat was cut in two by Nibiru yielding our Earth and the Astroid Belt, maybe Babylonian influence.

I also try contacting both the unbodied consciousness of Zecharia, as well as the embodied physical ENKI.

During my meditations MANY energies affect my entire body-egoicmind frame/form and I wonder where they come from.

Richard, PLEASE also try to get more info on all this for us.

Ken, I don't think I have the DVD anymore. And I don't know where to start like you do. I only read Genesis Revisited and I was satisfied that I understood the big picture. Let us know what you learn !!!!
