Today Ancient Origins opens the Atlas of the Ancient World. It maps 24,997 ancient sites, from Paleolithic caves to medieval towns, and you can search it by place, country or site type, then filter by region and era.
We built it around the questions you send us most. Where was Atlantis said to be? Is Göbekli Tepe the oldest temple? Did the stones of Stonehenge come from Wales and Scotland?
The alternative theories stay on the map. Next to them, we show the evidence.
Since 31 October, 15 places carry a Fact Check verdict that names the claim it grades. A few examples:
Valley of the Kings: Curse claim, Fringe
Stonehenge: Stone origin claim, Disputed
Gunung Padang: Pyramid age claim, Unverified
Antikythera: Ancient computer claim, Established
Across the 15, the count is 2 Established, 1 Disputed, 7 Fringe and 5 Unverified. Every verdict links to a sourced Fact Check by Aris Manus, and our method page explains how we grade a claim: https://www.ancient-origins.net/history-explains/how-we-check-evidence
There is more to explore. Follow the “Atlantis candidates” trail, press “Near me” to find sites around you, or “Surprise me” for a random one.
Which place should we grade next? Tell us in the comments.
