Excellent article. We constantly underestimate the trade networks that connected early people. See, e.g., Proto by Laura Spinney.

Great article! Thanks, it was much appreciated . Put it on a catch all page regarding Vikings on Pinterest ' Thorfinn, Earl of Orkney.' A zillion years ago, I read a novel called ' The King Hearafter' by Dorothy Dunnett. The book was so very poignant & intriguing , I set about to learn more of the Viking history.

Hi I am born in Iceland midle of last century. I have lived here in 70 years and lerned our history. I am sure that our history and also history of North Ameríka are totaly faked. I can also explaned. I is not long story becouse I also leared in school to say lot in few words. Belive my historys ár written often of so caled winers and they always tel oneside story and not the whole thruth,newer ever. I will have more to say in week 23 2025

HII, I'm Norwegian, born 1970. Why do you think our common history is fake? The language, culture, building styles and DNA are closely related. How excactly would those be faked? We may well be very, very, very, very distant cousins... Notice my middle name?

Considering there was a permanent Viking/Norse settlement on Greenland until the early 1500's, still under Norwegian rule at the time the coin was minted, it may well have been brought to continental North America by them and since lived on as a pendant by Native Americans...
